Skincare and Private Aviation: Arrive Refreshed

October 29, 2020

I’m Tata Harper – founder of Tata Harper Skincare. I’m so pleased to be a guest blogger and included as a Flexjet brand partner, so you can take a piece of Vermont (along with great skin) with you on your next journey.

I travel a lot as our business has been expanding globally — and as you know, repeat flights and long times in the air can affect your skin. Whether I am landing and going right to an event or meeting, I always aim to have a fresh and glowy complexion. Over the years, I’ve worked hard to curate the perfect travel regimen to not only keep my skin healthy and hydrated, but also keep my mind & body in check with these wellness tips to make sure I land looking — and feeling!— totally refreshed.

How Flying Can Alter Skin

It’s no secret that flying can wreak havoc on your hydration levels, leaving our skin compromised. Why’s that? The lower humidity level of planes can make our skin dry and overcompensate by producing excess oil. And the lower air pressure mixed with high altitude reduces the oxygen in your blood. For our skin, this means dullness and water retention which can make us look a little puffy around our eyes and in our cheeks.

So, what can we do to prevent this from happening? The best defense is to make sure your skin is prepped and your carry-on is packed with these in-flight essentials. Since water content is key, this regimen is all about our deeply hydrating products that quench thirsty, dehydrated skin from the inside out. Here’s exactly what you need to refresh & soothe your skin before your flight, during, and of course even after you’ve landed.

Of course, I love packing my in-flight essentials in our Vegan Leather Vanity Case — this is the perfect way to travel with your skincare.

Before your flight:

Deep Cleanse

When skin becomes dehydrated, it can overcompensate by producing oil. This cleanser works to breakdown oil by foaming to a minty perfection, with a cooling tingle so you know it’s working!

It is the perfect pick me up before and certainly after a long flight. I love how the Clarifying Cleanser deeply cleans the skin to rinse impurities down the drain, while also providing much needed nourishment. This cleanser gets its beautiful green color from chlorella algae, which nourishes with amino acids, vitamins and minerals

Layer up with Hydration

Before you head off to bed, give your skin a surge of extra hydration. Using our Green Beauty Mask Brush, I like to apply a thin layer of Hydrating Floral Mask in place of my usual moisturizer to use as an overnight treatment. This mask is packed with 1,000 different sizes of hyaluronic acid to visibly plump the skin and hydrate from the deepest layers of the skin to the top. With thirteen ingredients for hydration, including tremella mushroom and chia seed water, this mask is my favorite way to prep skin for a long flight.

Before you jet off, consider skipping the caffeine if you can! Pre-flight, I’ve found it helpful to up your water intake from your usual. You’ll be able to prep and retain your skin barrier’s moisture by keeping yourself hydrated inside and out.

During your flight:

Refresh and Reset

Apply our Hydrating Floral Essence in-flight for an instant pick-me-up and to refresh and bring a surge of moisture to your skin. It’s packed with dual weight hyaluronic acid, rose hydrosols, and our skin-rejuvenating floral blend. It’s the perfect skincare treat anytime and anywhere. I never go anywhere without it. Oh and, it’s makeup friendly too!

Well-Rested Eyes

Next, apply a thick layer of our Boosted Contouring Eye Balm all around the eye area. This treatment helps lift and firm my eyes while sealing in hydration. Get ready to say goodbye to dark circles from your redeye flight as tazman pepper works overtime so you can look well rested hopping off the plane. I love using this as a lip mask, too!

For a sense of calmness and keeping any travel stress at bay, our Aromatic Stress Treatment is the perfect solution. I love to apply to my pulse points and then my palms. I rub my hands together and inhale deeply for 5 breaths. You can use it as often as you need it.

After your flight:

To take care of my skin post-flight I always start with an additional deep cleanse to sweep away any buildup & dead skin cells with our Regenerating Cleanser – it’s a really amazing way to get your skin feeling back to life after a crazy day of traveling.

If my skin is feeling super-jet lagged, I give myself our ultimate hydration mini facial. First, apply a generous layer of Hydrating Floral Mask to clean skin. Leave it on for 20 minutes, then use Hydrating Floral Essence to remove the mask instead of water. To do so, simply mist the essence all over your face & neck, massage into your skin (you’ll see the mask turn into a milky texture), then tissue off excess product. This is one of the best feelings post-flight — you’ll have super-soft, pillowy skin that’s replenished with long-lasting moisture.

I wish you safe travels and am excited for you to start your green journey. Together, let’s #TravelGreen. Boy Voyage!
