Ireland’s world-leading role in racehorse breeding is just one of the country’s many attractions for the discerning traveller, with potential buyers flying in to bid for the finest young thoroughbreds, in a calendar of prestigious sales.
Flexjet partner Goffs is the country’s renowned international thoroughbred auction house, synonymous with Irish horse breeding for 150 years. Its two-day Orby Sale is one of the most exclusive, offering a selection of hundreds of elite yearlings at auction each autumn.
Buyers from this year’s sale can exclusively enter their yearling in the Goffs Million, Europe’s richest two-year old race at The Curragh racecourse, next year on the eve of the 2022 Orby Sale.
A true spectacle, the sale takes place at the 78-acre Goffs complex, located between Dublin and The Curragh in Co. Kildare. Manicured lawns and 760 stables surround the auditorium and sales ring, through which some 3000 horses are sold annually, including the Irish Oaks winner Chicquita – which became the most expensive horse ever sold in Ireland for a record €6 million. A selection of charming restaurants gives diners a view of the bustling barns, steeped in history.
A Red Label style welcome from the Flexjet team
The Flexjet team will be at this year’s Orby Sale (on Tuesday 28th and Wednesday 29th September) to help extend a Red Label style welcome to buyers and guests, who fly in from all over the globe. The event begins with a champagne reception on the eve of the sale at the five-star K Club Hotel, one of Ireland’s top golf and spa resorts, tucked away in the Kildare countryside, yet just on Dublin’s doorstep.
Guests travelling to Goffs also have the opportunity to enjoy the surrounding area, including a visit to nearby studs such as Gilltown, the Aga Khan’s public stud and home to the legendary Sea The Stars. The glorious countryside of Co. Kildare and the vibrant city of Dublin are both within touching distance, offering a wealth of ways to enjoy the finest Irish hospitality.
