MEDITTERANEAN ESCAPES, WITH FLEXJET

April 25, 2022

With the mercury rising in Europe, the charms of the Mediterranean become warmer by the day. Our Flexjet fleet is busy turning to the coast, with our Owners making plans for exceptional summer escapes.

Here we present our curated selection of Mediterranean destinations for 2022 – from the classic to the undiscovered – and reveal what makes each a hotspot for our Owners.

The timeless Cote d’Azur

An enduring favourite with discerning travellers from all over the world, the Cote d’Azur glistens with timeless elegance and style. From picture perfect villages to glamorous nightspots, the whole coastline bursts into life in the warmer months, with sailing opportunities and prestigious events adding to the year-round appeal of sublime beaches, exclusive properties and exquisite restaurants.

When it comes to where to stay, Flexjet partner The Maybourne Group has recently unveiled its sister property to London’s Claridges and The Connaught, The Maybourne Riviera. Perfectly situated in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, between Menton and Monte Carlo, the spectacular hotel combines striking modernist architecture with exquisite service and luxurious suites, just footsteps from the sea.

Flexjet Owners have a choice of airports including Nice Cote d’Azur Airport (LFMN) and Cannes Mandelieu (LFMD), offering seamless connections across the whole area.

Exotic & undiscovered Pantelleria

Still little-known to the mainstream travel set, the Italian island of Pantelleria is a secret jewel in the Mediterranean, set off the coast of Sicily. In contrast to some of Europe’s glitzier summer hotspots, this UNESCO World Heritage site offers a more austere elegance and charm, with its rugged coastline of intricate lava rock formations and secluded coves, set against the azure sea.

The volcanic island is studded with steaming fumaroles, thermal springs and mud spas, with its clear waters a paradise for divers, and archeological treasures beneath the sea. The rich soil provides a bountiful harvest, with capers a particularly prized local delicacy.

Offering the most luxurious stay is Sikelia Luxury Retreat, an elegant, whitewashed oasis with serene spa treatments, contemporary interiors and just 19 exquisite suites. It also serves imaginative cuisine at its restaurant – or via a private chef’s table experience offshore on the hotel’s Tunisian fishing boat.

While small, the island does offer its own runway at Pantelleria Airport (LICG), so Flexjet Owners can jet directly in and out of this undiscovered gem.

The razzle dazzle of Mykonos

Certainly not for the quiet crowd, Mykonos is the place to be for the most happening summer partygoers in the Mediterranean. Originally a haven for artists thanks to its famously pinkish light, the Aegean island is now home to the liveliest and most exclusive beach clubs in Europe, drawing an elite international crowd looking to let their hair down to the sounds of the world’s top DJs.

The charms of Mykonos don’t only start at nightfall of course. There are 35 beautiful white sand beaches, and the island’s winds make it a wonderful place to try kitesurfing or windsurfing, as well as sailing. The island offers the most exclusive boutiques and destination restaurants in Greece, and you are spoilt for choice on where to stay – from jawdropping villas, to boutique hotels and lavish five-star resorts.

Mykonos Airport (LGMK) offers a convenient gateway to Flexjet Owners flying in and out of the island.

Majorca’s endless appeal

For many Majorca is the ultimate luxury Mediterranean escape: Exceptional beaches, an elegant and laid-back vibe, ideal for families, and a huge amount to see and do.

To the north long stretches of golden sand await, while over to the west, the Serra de Tramuntana mountains plunge down to brilliant blue seas and hidden coves. Discover villages that have inspired poets and artists, including the Cap Rocat in Cala Blava. This former 19th-century military fortress has been imaginatively transformed into an exceptional boutique property. Both inland and on the coast, you’ll find a number of exquisite five-star hotel options across the island.

For a city fix, the buzzing and bijou capital Palma has an exciting restaurant scene, cobbled old town and cathedral with impressive Mediterranean views.

Flexjet Owners fly in and out via Palma Airport (GCLA), which is just 8km to the east of the capital and offers 24-hour facilities for private aviation passengers and crew.

The beguiling Amalfi coast

Southern Italy’s glorious Amalfi coast is a summer favourite with Flexjet Owners. Overlooked by Vesuvius and bathed in history, the whole area is pure La Dolce Vita, with the famously vertiginous and winding coastal road threaded by impossibly pretty pastel-coloured towns and villages. These include the famous Positano, Amalfi and Ravello – or try Praiano for a more low key vibe.

All along the coast, cliffs plunge into the Tyrrhenian Sea, topped with grand palazzos and exclusive hotels. And just a short boat or helicopter ride away the islands of Capri and Ischia beckon, each offering a unique appeal of their own.

The city of Naples is around 60km up the coast with Naples Capodichino Airport (LIRN) the gateway to the coast for Flexjet Owners.
